Last updated: June 2026. This guide covers Kill Team's 2024 edition — the current rules, launched with the Kill Team: Hivestorm box in September 2024 and commonly called 3rd edition or KT24 by players. Always check the latest official rules and your event pack for definitive wording.
A game of Kill Team 2024 asks you to track more states per model than almost any other Games Workshop system. Every operative carries an order (conceal or engage) and an activation state, a wound count with an injured threshold, and sometimes an APL change — on top of command points, four Turning Points, numbered objectives, and equipment like mines and grenades sitting in the killzone. This guide walks through every token and marker the 2024 rules actually use, what the starter set gives you, and the acrylic upgrade for each job.
All measuring, by the way, is back to plain inches in 2024 — and if you own the older symbol-marked rulers, they still measure the right distances. We cover that below.

Kill Team 2024 — Token Quick Reference
Here is everything a 2024-rules game asks you to track, what each state does, and the marker that does the job:
| What to Track | How It Works in Kill Team 2024 | The Marker |
|---|---|---|
| Order | Every operative is on a conceal or engage order. Concealed operatives in cover can't be targeted but can't shoot or charge; engaged operatives act normally. | Conceal / engage tokens |
| Activation | Whether an operative is still ready this Turning Point or already expended. The official pattern puts ready/expended on the two faces of the order token. | Double-sided order tokens |
| Wounds | Damage reduces an operative's Wounds stat numerically — you track the running count, not just a status. | Numbered wound tokens |
| Injured | An operative below half its starting wounds is injured: subtract 2″ from its Move and worsen its weapons' Hit stat by 1. | Injured markers |
| APL changes | Effects can raise or lower an operative's Action Point Limit — but the net change can never exceed +1 or −1. | APL +1 / −1 tokens |
| Guard | An engaged operative can spend AP to go on Guard and intercept enemies later in the Turning Point — a persistent state both players need to see. | Shield markers |
| Command points | You start with 2CP and gain more each Turning Point; ploys cost 1CP. A dial beats a die you might knock over. | CP dial or tracker |
| Turning Point | A battle runs 4 Turning Points unless the mission says otherwise. Easy to lose count mid-game. | Turning point dial |
| Objectives | Objective markers are 40mm across; the 2024 Approved Operations missions place 3 of them. | Numbered 40mm objectives |
| Equipment | Universal equipment puts physical pieces in the killzone: frag, krak, stun and smoke grenades, mines, ammo caches, and comms devices. | Equipment markers |

Orders & Activation: Conceal, Engage, Ready, Expended
Orders are the heartbeat of Kill Team. Each operative gets a conceal or engage order when it's activated, and operatives set up in the killzone start concealed. A concealed operative in cover can't be shot, but gives up its own shooting and charging to stay safe; an engaged operative trades that protection for full freedom to act. Both players need to read the state of every operative at a glance — which is exactly what a clear physical token settles.
The same token usually carries your activation state: one face up while the operative is ready, flipped when it's expended. That's the pattern the official tokens use, and the LITKO set follows it — green tokens for engage, black for conceal, each engraved with a ready arrow on one face and an activated loop on the other.
Wounds, Injured & APL
Kill Team 2024 tracks wounds numerically — every hit decrements an operative's Wounds stat, and operatives run anywhere from about 6 to 19 wounds. The starter set gives you no way to track the count itself, which is why numbered wound tokens are one of the most-searched Kill Team upgrades: park a 1, 3, or 5 (or a stack) next to an operative and the math stays on the table instead of in your head.
The number matters because of the injured threshold: once an operative drops below half its starting wounds, it subtracts 2″ from its Move and worsens its weapons' Hit stat by 1. An injured marker on the model means neither player forgets the penalty — and a dedicated half-health token works as the early-warning flag.
APL (Action Point Limit) rounds out per-model tracking. Rules and ploys can raise or lower an operative's APL, but the net change never exceeds +1 or −1 — so a single +1/−1 token per affected operative is all you ever need. One token, not a stack.
What Tokens Come in the Starter Set?
The 2024 starter box (Kill Team: Hivestorm) ships its tracking on punch-out card: a double-sided core token sheet of about 92 tokens covering orders, statuses, and equipment, plus a separate sheet of team-specific tokens, card measuring gauges alongside a plastic gauge, ten six-sided dice, and a 30-piece plastic universal equipment pack. It's a complete kit on day one.
Two gaps show up at the table. First, there's no wound-count component at all — the sheets mark statuses, but nothing tracks the running number, so most players end up with dice tipping over behind models. Second, community reviews consistently note the sheet's roughly 15 copies of each status token can run short across two teams once a scrap gets bloody. Cardboard also does what cardboard does: corners fur up, faces rub off, tokens migrate between boxes.
That's the upgrade case in one sentence: keep the card as spares, and put laser-engraved acrylic on the states you touch every single activation — orders, injuries, and wound counts.
Measuring in 2024: Inches (and the Old Symbols)
Kill Team 2024 measures in plain inches. The previous edition famously replaced inches with shape symbols; the 2024 rules dropped the symbols and went back to numbers. The distances that come up constantly are 1″, 2″, 3″, and 6″ — control range, gaps, charges, and the standard equipment ranges.
Do the old symbol rulers still work?
Yes — and this trips up a lot of returning players in the other direction. The old symbols were never arbitrary: ▲ triangle = 1″, ● circle = 2″, ■ square = 3″, ⬡ pentagon = 6″. Because the mapping is exactly one-to-one with inches, a symbol-marked ruler from the previous edition physically measures correct 2024 distances. LITKO's rulers and range tools for Kill Team carry the engraved inch values alongside the symbols, so they read correctly under either edition's rules.
The Acrylic Upgrade: the 80-Piece 2024 Token Set
The LITKO Single Player Token Set for Kill Team 2024 is the purpose-built upgrade: 80 laser-engraved acrylic markers covering one player's whole game, in translucent blue, green, or red so two players' tokens never get confused.
| Count | Markers |
|---|---|
| 10 + 10 | Conceal and engage order markers (18.5mm) |
| 15 | Injured markers — matching the status the punchboard runs out of first |
| 4 + 4 | APL +1 and APL −1 markers |
| 14 | Equipment markers: frag, krak, stun and smoke grenades, mines, ammo crates, comm devices (2 each, 19mm) |
| 10 + 10 | Shield markers for tracking the Guard action, plus five Greek-letter pairs (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Theta) — generic markers for tac op locations and faction effects |
| 3 | Numbered 40mm objective markers (1–3) — the count the 2024 Approved Operations missions use |
Every LITKO Accessory for Kill Team — 2024 Compatibility
Several LITKO accessories for Kill Team were first cut during the previous edition and still say “2nd Edition” on the listing. Don't let the label scare you off: the table below is the honest compatibility rundown for the 2024 rules, item by item.
| Accessory | Works with Kill Team 2024? |
|---|---|
| Single Player Token Set (80) | Built for it — the purpose-made 2024 set. |
| Order/Activated Token Set (20) | Yes — conceal/engage plus ready/expended is exactly how 2024 orders work. |
| Multi Range Ruler Set (11) | Yes — the symbols equal 1″/2″/3″/6″, and the inch values are engraved on the rulers. |
| Range Tool | Yes — its 1″/2″/3″/6″ edges are the 2024 distances. |
| Wound Token Set 1/3/5 (30) | Yes — 2024 tracks wound counts numerically; numbers don't go out of date. |
| Half Health Tokens (10) | Yes — marks the below-half threshold where 2024's injured penalty kicks in. |
| Action Point Modifier Tokens (10) | Yes — ±1 APL is current 2024 rules (net changes cap at ±1). |
| Objective Tokens 1–6 (6) | Yes — 40mm is the official objective size; 2024 missions use 3, so you carry spares. |
| Command Point Dial 0–12 | Yes — covers the 2024 CP economy with room to spare. |
| Initiative Turning Point Dial 1–6 | Yes — 2024 plays 4 Turning Points; the dial covers them all. |
| Command & Victory Point Tracker | Yes — CP 0–12 and VP 0–30 cover 2024 scoring. |
| Personalized Base Hugger Token Set (10) | Yes — your own text, so it tracks whatever your team's rules invent next. |
Two honest footnotes. A few of the older LITKO sets for Kill Team — the 50-piece Combat Token Set, the Command Dials, the Scout Phase set, the Specialist/Specialism base huggers, and the Battle Round range combat gauge — are built around the 2018 game's rules (Shaken, Nerve tests, Specialisms, the Scouting phase, the six-phase battle round), which the 2024 rules no longer use. They're still great for first-edition games; we just don't recommend them for 2024. And if you played the previous edition, your 2021-era tokens for orders, wounds, and APL all carry straight over — the mechanics survived the edition change.
Frequently Asked Questions
What tokens do you need for Kill Team 2024?
Per operative: a conceal or engage order token that also shows ready/expended, plus injured markers and a way to count wounds. Per player: APL +1/−1 tokens, a command point tracker, and equipment markers (grenades, mines, ammo caches, comms). Per game: three numbered 40mm objective markers and a turning point tracker. The 80-piece LITKO Single Player Token Set covers one player's share of all of it.
What wound tokens come in the Kill Team 2024 starter set?
The starter box's punch-out card sheets include status tokens, but no component for tracking wound counts — and the roughly 15 copies of each status can run short across two teams. Numbered acrylic wound tokens (1, 3 and 5) and extra injured markers are the standard upgrade.
How are wounds tracked in Kill Team 2024?
Numerically. Damage reduces an operative's Wounds stat point by point, and once an operative is below half its starting wounds it becomes injured: subtract 2″ from its Move and worsen its weapons' Hit stat by 1. So you track two things — the running count, and the injured state.
What are APL modifier tokens for?
Rules and ploys can raise or lower an operative's Action Point Limit, and the net change can never exceed +1 or −1. A +1/−1 token next to the operative records the change — one token is always enough, because the modifiers don't stack past that cap.
What are conceal and engage order tokens?
Every Kill Team operative is always on one of two orders. Conceal keeps an operative in cover safe from being targeted but stops it shooting or charging; engage lets it act freely. Order tokens show each operative's current order, and the standard double-sided design flips between ready and expended to track activations too.
How does measuring work in Kill Team 2024?
In plain inches — the 2024 edition dropped the previous edition's shape symbols. The distances you'll measure constantly are 1″, 2″, 3″ and 6″, which is why dedicated Kill Team range tools put exactly those four lengths in your hand.
Do 2nd edition Kill Team rulers still work in 2024?
Yes. The old symbols were defined as exact inch values — triangle 1″, circle 2″, square 3″, pentagon 6″ — so a symbol-marked ruler measures correct 2024 distances. LITKO's rulers and range tools also carry the engraved inch numbers, so they read correctly either way.
Do LITKO sets labeled "2nd Edition" work with Kill Team 2024?
Almost all of them, yes — orders, wound counting, APL modifiers, 40mm objectives, command points and the measuring distances all carried over into the 2024 rules, so the sets work as-is despite the older label. The exceptions are sets built on 2018-edition mechanics (Shaken, Specialisms, the Scouting phase), which we don't recommend for 2024. See the compatibility table above for the item-by-item rundown.
Can I get custom Kill Team tokens?
Yes. For tokens with your own text, numbers, icons, or artwork — faction abilities, tac op reminders, anything the standard sets don't cover — see LITKO's custom token options, or contact our team to work with our in-house designer.
