Last updated: June 2026. This guide reflects Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition rules as revealed in official previews ahead of the June 2026 launch. We will update it within 48 hours of the published Core Rules to confirm every detail. Always check the latest official rules and your tournament's pack for definitive wording.
11th Edition gives you more to keep track of than any recent edition of Warhammer 40,000. New unit states, persistent conditions, movement-dependent shooting, and terrain-based objectives all have to be remembered — turn after turn, across the whole table. This guide walks through what you actually need to mark, and the token that does the job.
Forgetting a status doesn't just slow the game down — it changes outcomes. Did that unit Advance or make a Normal Move? Is it still Battle-shocked from last turn? Is that squad Hidden in the ruins, or fair game? Clear physical markers keep the game fast and the table honest for both players.
LITKO makes laser-cut acrylic tokens for every core 11th Edition state, and bundles them in the 11th Edition Token Master Set. Want tokens with your own text, numbers, icons, or artwork? See LITKO's custom token options — personalized, numbered, and UV-printed designs — or contact our team to work with our in-house designer, Amer.

Why 11th Edition Needs More Tokens
Two changes in 11th Edition make on-table tracking matter more than it used to. First, Battle-shock now persists — a shaken unit stays Battle-shocked across turns until it recovers, instead of resetting automatically. Second, Hidden is one of 11th Edition's signature new mechanics, and whether a unit is Hidden depends on what it did last turn and where it's standing.
Add the long-standing need to remember each unit's movement type, half-strength thresholds, modifiers, and which terrain areas are objectives, and there's a lot riding on memory. A handful of clear, color-coded tokens replaces that memory with something both players can see.
11th Edition States — Token Quick Reference
Here's what you'll track in a typical 11th Edition game, what each state does, and the matching token in the LITKO 11th Edition Token Master Set. Every token is double-sided, pairing two related states on one piece.
| State to Track | What It Means in 11th Edition | Token (Double-Sided) |
|---|---|---|
| Hidden | An Infantry, Beast, or Swarm unit within a terrain area that didn't shoot can't be targeted unless an enemy gets within detection range (usually around 15 inches). | Grey-Blue: Hidden / Action |
| Action | A unit performing an Action (for a mission or secondary objective) that it must hold through the turn. | Grey-Blue: Hidden / Action |
| Battle-shocked | A unit that failed its Battle-shock test: it can't control objectives, can't be the target of your Stratagems, and risks Desperate Escape if it Falls Back. Persists until it recovers. | Orange-Red: 1/2 Strength / Battle Shocked |
| At/Below Half Strength | The threshold that forces a Battle-shock test in the Command phase. Mark it so you don't miss the test. | Orange-Red: 1/2 Strength / Battle Shocked |
| Advanced | Unit added a random distance to its move — can only fire Assault weapons and can't charge. | Blue-Yellow: Advance / Fall Back |
| Fell Back | Unit moved out of Engagement Range. A Battle-shocked unit that Falls Back risks Desperate Escape losses. | Blue-Yellow: Advance / Fall Back |
| Stationary / Normal Move | Whether a unit stayed put (or moved a short distance) affects shooting — e.g. the Heavy weapon to-hit bonus. | Red-Green: Stationary / Normal Move |
| +1 / -1 Modifier | A generic reminder for a +1 or -1 modifier from terrain, an ability, or a Stratagem. | Red-Green: -1 / +1 Modifier |
| Regular / Home Objective | Mark which terrain areas are objectives, and which one is your Home Objective, at a glance. | Pink-Purple: Regular / Home Objective |
Hidden & Actions
Hidden is one of 11th Edition's signature new mechanics. An Infantry, Beast, or Swarm unit positioned within a terrain area, that did not shoot, becomes Hidden — enemy units can't target it unless they're close enough to detect it (a detection range of around 15 inches). It's a powerful way to push midfield infantry up the board and hold terrain.
The catch is that both players need to agree on what's Hidden and what isn't. A token on the unit settles it instantly — no re-litigating line of sight every shooting phase. Flip the same token to its Action side when a unit is performing a mission Action it has to hold through the turn.
Why it pairs: a unit is rarely Hidden and performing an Action in the same breath, so LITKO puts both on one double-sided token — fewer pieces in your bag, the same coverage on the table.
Battle-shock & Half Strength
When a unit is at or below half strength, it has to take a Battle-shock test in your Command phase. Fail it and the unit becomes Battle-shocked: its Objective Control drops to 0 (it can't hold objectives), it can't be the target of your Stratagems, and if it Falls Back it has to take Desperate Escape tests.
The big 11th Edition change: Battle-shock now persists. A Battle-shocked unit doesn't automatically recover at the start of your next turn — it stays shaken until it passes a Battle-shock test in a later Command phase. That means the status lives on the table across multiple turns, which is exactly when a physical marker earns its keep. Leave the Battle Shocked side up until the unit recovers; use the 1/2 Strength side as an early-warning flag the moment a unit crosses the threshold so you never forget the test.
Movement: Advance, Fall Back, Normal Move & Stationary
How a unit moved in the Movement phase changes what it can do later in the turn, and it's easy to lose track once a dozen units have shuffled around. Two double-sided tokens cover the four movement states:
- Advance / Fall Back — an Advance adds a random distance to the move but limits the unit to Assault weapons and no charge; a Fall Back pulls a unit out of Engagement Range (and risks Desperate Escape if the unit is Battle-shocked).
- Stationary / Normal Move — whether a unit stayed put or moved normally affects its shooting. Notably, Heavy weapons get +1 to hit when the unit stayed still or moved 3 inches or less — a bonus you don't want to forget to claim.
Drop the right token next to each unit as you finish its move, and the shooting phase resolves cleanly — no "wait, did that unit Advance?" mid-roll.
Objectives in 11th Edition
Objectives work differently in 11th Edition. Rather than scoring off small marker discs, most objectives are now terrain areas you control. You still benefit from marking which areas are the objectives — and which one is your Home Objective — so both players can see the map at a glance during scoring.
The Regular / Home Objective token does exactly that: a clear, two-sided marker you place on the relevant terrain area. (Games Workshop explicitly allows using tokens to mark which terrain areas are the objectives.) For physically defining the objective areas themselves, see the LITKO Terrain Footprint Set — the natural companion, since 11th Edition's Hidden, cover, and objective rules all key off clearly defined terrain. New to them? Our guide to 11th Edition terrain footprints walks through the sizes and which set to pick.
Tournament note: these tokens are player aids for clarity, not a replacement for any markers your event provides. Check your tournament's pack for how it wants objectives marked.
+1 / -1 Modifiers
Terrain, abilities, and Stratagems throw a lot of +1 and -1 modifiers around. A simple double-sided -1 / +1 token next to a unit or objective is the fastest way to remember an active modifier without writing anything down — flip to the side you need, pull it when the effect ends.
What's in the 11th Edition Token Master Set
The LITKO 11th Edition Token Master Set is 42 double-sided, UV-printed clear acrylic tokens (25mm), color-coded so each state reads instantly across the table:
| Count & Color | Double-Sided States |
|---|---|
| (10) Grey-Blue | Hidden / Action |
| (8) Orange-Red | 1/2 Strength / Battle Shocked |
| (6) Pink-Purple | Regular / Home Objective |
| (6) Blue-Yellow | Advance / Fall Back |
| (6) Red-Green | Stationary / Normal Move |
| (6) Red-Green | -1 / +1 Modifier |
Because each token carries two related states, the set covers the core of an 11th Edition game while keeping your token count — and table clutter — low.
What Else You'll Want to Track
The Token Master Set covers unit states. A full game has a few more things worth marking — and LITKO makes those too:
- Wounds & damage on multi-wound models, Monsters, and Vehicles — track them cleanly with LITKO wound dials and wound markers instead of a pile of dice.
- Objective areas & terrain — the Terrain Footprint Set defines the terrain areas that 11th Edition's Hidden, cover, and objective rules all depend on.
- Custom or printed tokens — want your own text, numbers, icons, or artwork on a token? See LITKO's custom token options (personalized, numbered, and UV-printed designs) or contact our team.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Hidden rule in Warhammer 40K 11th Edition?
Hidden is a new 11th Edition mechanic. An Infantry, Beast, or Swarm unit positioned within a terrain area that didn't shoot becomes Hidden, and enemy units can't target it unless they're within detection range (around 15 inches). It rewards pushing infantry into terrain and holding the midfield.
How does Battle-shock work in 11th Edition?
A unit at or below half strength takes a Battle-shock test in your Command phase. If it fails, it becomes Battle-shocked: it can't control objectives, can't be the target of your Stratagems, and risks Desperate Escape if it Falls Back. Unlike 10th Edition, Battle-shock now persists — the unit stays shaken until it passes a Battle-shock test in a later Command phase, which is why a marker that stays on the table is so useful.
Do I still need objective markers in 11th Edition?
Objectives in 11th Edition are largely terrain areas you control rather than small scoring discs. You don't score off the token itself — but marking which terrain areas are the objectives (and which is your Home Objective) keeps scoring clear for both players. Games Workshop explicitly allows using tokens for this.
Why are the tokens double-sided?
Each token pairs two related states that a unit rarely needs at the same time — Hidden and Action, 1/2 Strength and Battle Shocked, Advance and Fall Back, and so on. Flipping one token instead of carrying two keeps your token count and table clutter low.
What tokens do I need for 11th Edition?
At minimum: a way to mark Hidden units, Battle-shocked units, movement types, objective areas, and active modifiers. The LITKO 11th Edition Token Master Set bundles all of these in one 42-token set. Many players add wound trackers for multi-wound models and a terrain set to define objective areas.
Are LITKO tokens tournament legal?
LITKO tokens are player aids for clarity and most tournament organizers welcome clear, neutral status markers. Always check your specific event's rules pack, especially for how it wants objectives marked.
Can I get custom or personalized tokens?
Yes. For tokens with your own text, numbers, icons, or artwork, see LITKO's custom token options — personalized tokens, numbered sequences, and UV-printed designs — or contact our team to work with our designer, Amer, on intricate or multi-layer work. (Need a plain blank acrylic disc in a custom size, with no printing? The BaseMaker tool cuts those too — but it doesn't print or engrave.)
